The internship program at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute
is designed for students who have earned a Bachelor's degree or advanced degree. Internships provide an opportunity for students to
obtain to gain valuable experience and skills in their field
of study; apply what theyve learned to further their
careers; and explore a field of study to see if it fits
into their career plans.
Internships are available year round and may be full-time
or part-time. Internships are normally unpaid, however,
depending on the nature of research activities, a
financial stipend may be offered. Academic credits
will not be awarded by the University of Hawaii. However,
if you are from another educational institution, you may
earn credits from your home institution. Please refer to
your institutions curriculum requirements.
There are formal established criteria for application consideration:

Students must have a Bachelor's degree or higher, and provide evidence of such degree.

Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA (based on a scale of 0-4 rating);

Fluency in reading, writing and verbal communication skills in
English*;

If you are considered for an internship, two letters of
recommendation will be required (at minimum), one preferably from a
professor in your field of study.
*Evidence
of English Language Proficiency: if your native language is not English,
you must submit official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
scores or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic
Modules test results from the test taken within the last two years.
Your most recent score must be at least 500/173 (paper/computer) for TOEFL,
or 5.00 for the IELTS overall band test result.
