Temporary, extramural funds.

Training to be Performed: Participation in research on refining of biomass into bio-based chemicals, polymers and fuels. Training includes biomass pretreatment, thermal catalysis, and microbial fermentation.

Assistant Researcher (Biomass Research)

Duties:  Participate in assessment of alternative pathways to meet the projected demand for hydrogen on Oahu, Hawaii.  Identify logistic pathways for hydrogen production from biomass resources available on Oahu.  Evaluate suitability of hydrogen production options from biomass. Conduct targeted experiments using existing laboratory facilities to assess feedstock options as required.  Assess and compare importation of natural gas in small-scale container vessels as a hydrogen production option.
