Junior Researcher

#0086087T, temporary, limited-term, non-tenure track, federal funds.  To begin approximately November 1, 2012.  Duties: Participate in projects related to battery research on cell evaluations and path-dependence of battery degradation.  Perform tasks such as battery testing with brand-name battery test equipments made by Arbin, Maccor, PEC, Bio-logic, Solartron, PAR, and others known in the industry; data analysis to understand battery degradation and aging mechanisms; modifying test protocols and procedures, as defined in the US DOE/USABC manuals; and maintain equipment and database. Work with PI and other faculty members and research staff to develop advanced battery test facility including components and capabilities in test procedures and protocols, database and management, data analysis and software packaging with computer-based programs for implementation of the above for instrumentation control, data collection and analysis, and tools for battery diagnosis and prognosis. Assist in the training and supervision of student assistants, trainees/visiting scholars, and research staff on the use in the use of instruments for experiments. Conduct library literature searches and other information gathering for projects and programs; in the writing and proofreading of research reports and publications; and, in the summarizing of findings for reports and presentations. Perform other duties as assigned.  Minimum Qualifications:  Masters degree and, in addition to the MS, 30 credits of graduate study from a college or university of recognized standing in electrochemistry, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering or related field. Demonstrated experience in testing and analyzing commercial battery cells regarding their performance and degradation phenomena. Demonstrated ability to coordinate group projects, work with colleagues in a collaborative manner, and to synthesize outcomes from related projects to publish journal papers, technical reports, and funding proposals.
