Bor Yann Liaw (Ph.D., Materials Science and Engineering, Stanford University) has been working on battery-related research work since 1984. His recent work includes advanced power source and energy storage systems and biofuel cells with emphasis on commercial battery evaluations, diagnostics and prognostics, and novel battery system developments. He conducted his graduate work with Professor Robert A. Huggins on Li and H-based rechargeable batteries and a postdoctoral fellow study under Professor Werner Weppner at the Max-Plank-Institute for Solid State Research in Germany on chemical sensors and solid oxide fuel cells. He joined the institute in 1989 and was a recipient of an NEDO/MITI International Joint Research Program award in 1994-97 and a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Visiting Research Fellowship at Kyoto University in 2005.
