Ed Noma joined the staff of the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI), University of Hawaii at Manoa, in 2014 as a Senior RESG (Renewable Energy & Smart Grid) Program Manager where he leverages his extensive project management and business development experience in both the U.S. and Asia-Pacific. As a senior member of the GridSTART (Grid System Technologies Advanced Research Team), Ed helps recruit and orchestrate public and private-sector partners as well as internal University resources. These diverse and often global teams come together to create ground-breaking research projects and impactful outcomes within GridSTART’s unique laboratory of real-world grids and utility customers. Prior to joining HNEI’s GridSTART, Ed most recently headed Partnerships and Business Development for Sandia National Laboratories’ Transportation Energy Center. Having honed his multi-cultural business and technical acumen during a 20-year career in Silicon Valley, he has led many successful new business initiatives and ventures throughout the Pacific Rim. Ed obtained both his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, and is verbally fluent in Japanese.
