HNEI POWER SYSTEM ENGINEER II – ID# 15129. Hawaii Natural Energy Institute. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications. DUTIES: As part of a multi-disciplinary research team, works with Faculty to plan, organize, manage, and perform modeling and technical analysis of power systems, including smart grid systems, and central and distributed energy resources, to develop technological and operational approaches to accommodate and manage high penetration level of renewable energy resources on island and interconnected grid systems. PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Electrical Engineering. EXPERIENCE: At least ten (10) years of utility experience, including seven (7) years in power systems operations, generation/transmission/distribution planning, analyses of electricity grid-related projects, and electrical system modeling utilizing modeling software tools. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Extensive knowledge of energy systems and electric utility planning, operations, technology trends and business practices. Extensive knowledge and understanding of the scientific and regulatory terms, federal and state laws, rules and regulations associated with grid technology and energy distribution. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present technical information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Proficient computer knowledge and skills.
