In 2011, Sam had the chance be an exchange student at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute on the island of Oahu during his graduate studies (MsC, BioScience-Engineering, University Ghent) in Belgium.
Sam decided to concentrate for a somewhat extended period on PRESSURIZED BIOMASS CARBONIZATION. Now at the University of Hawaii he attends in-depth courses about thermodynamics and other advanced courses at the mechanical engineering department while working for Dr. Michael J. Antal, Jr. in the R3-laboratory and more in particular with the patented Flash Carbonization™ technique.
Over the past 4 years in the R3-laboratory, Sam worked on several other pressurized vessels to make world’s most valuable charcoal and quickly became skilled in the art of making charcoal, both from the theoretical and practical points of view.
