Marina Chong (PhD – Inorganic Chemistry, University of Hawaii) obtained her B.Sc. in Combined Honours Chemistry and Oceanography at the University of British Columbia and decided to pursue oceanographic research by completing her M.Sc. at the University of Victoria in Chemical Oceanography. After a couple of years working at Rutgers University she was motivated to go back to school and earn her PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Hawaii, focusing on hydrogen storage on complex borohydrides. She then joined Dr. Nicolas Gaillard’s group at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute to take part in the development of thin film chalcopyrite and chalcogenide solar absorbers for photovoltaic and water splitting applications.
