Coral Industries Professor of Renewable Energy Resources
Michael Antal (PhD, Applied Mathematics) studied physics and mathematics at Dartmouth College and Harvard University prior to joining the Thermonuclear Weapons Physics Group of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. To better pursue his growing interest in renewable energy and sustainability Prof. Antal joined the faculty of Princeton University in 1975. In 1982 he left Princeton to occupy the world’s first endowed Chair in Renewable Energy that was established at the University of Hawaii. Twenty two alumni of Prof. Antal’s laboratory are now University professors or group leaders of national laboratories. Most are engaged in research concerning biofuels and sustainability. Professor Antal’s publications are among the most heavily cited of the engineering literature.
