HNEI was recently honored to host Governor Ige on a tour and demonstration of the HNEI recently commissioned hydrogen production and dispensing station at the Natural Energy Laboratory Hawai‘i Authority (NELHA) campus located beside the Island of Hawai‘i (“Big Island”) Kona Airport.
In addition to HNEI’s project personnel, Mitch Ewan and Aaron McCall, the event was also attended by U.S. Hybrid’s Todd Martin who demonstrated to the Governor the features of Hawai‘i’s first hydrogen bus to enter public transportation service. John Ando, the County of Hawai‘i Mass Transit Agency (MTA) Administrator, briefed the Governor on the MTA’s hydrogen and Battery Electric Bus deployment strategies and plans to convert the island public transportation system to a zero emission fleet. Riley Saito of the County of Hawai‘i Research and Development agency described plans for converting municipal solid waste into hydrogen to fuel the county bus and vehicle fleet.
The visit was coordinated by Susan Kim, the Governor’s Representative for West Hawai‘i, Officer of the Governor, State of Hawai‘i. Susan also acted as the official photographer and provided the images for this announcement. We would like to thank you Susan.
