The Oahu Wind Integration (OWIS) study evaluated the technical feasibility and economic viability of operational strategies, improvements to existing infrastructure, and new technologies to enable the integration of 400 MW of wind and 100 MW solar PV on the Oahu system. The grid modeling results suggested this amount of variable renewable generation could be integrated into the system while maintaining reliability. The study provided a host of recommendations to enable the accommodation of high levels of variable renewable energy.
