James Maskrey (Master Environmental Planning, energy design focus from the College of Architecture, Arizona State University; MBA, University of Hawaii) brings over 30 years of experience in the energy efficiency and renewable energy field to HNEI. Early in his career, he was a consultant with the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), now NREL. He spent the following 12 years in professional engineering, architecture and energy delivery firms, focusing on energy efficient building design and implementation. Prior to coming to Hawaii, Mr. Maskrey spent 2 years as Conservation Coordinator for the City of Santa Monica, where he implemented and managed the City’s energy and water programs. In Hawaii, he spent 10 years with Hawaiian Electric active in the startup and management of the newly PUC-approved Commercial Demand Side Management programs. Prior to joining HNEI he was involved with two solar-related energy start-up firms. At HNEI he has focused on energy efficiency research, specifically in net-zero energy and naturally ventilated buildings.
