Other Conditions: Extramural funds. To begin approximately January 2025 or soon thereafter. Renewal of appointment is contingent upon availability of funds, program/operational needs and satisfactory performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator in conducting research related to materials development for fuel cells, with emphasis on developing catalyst and support materials for proton exchange membrane fuel cell applications.
  • The graduate research assistants will be expected to be trained in EHSO laboratory safety, plan and conduct materials development experiments, perform characterization techniques, and report the finding in a publication style report.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be a degree-seeking graduate student (Masters or PhD) admitted to or registered in a graduate program at UH Manoa in mechanical engineering or related field of study.
  2. Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above and maintain full-time enrollment.
  3. Bachelor of Science in materials science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, physics or related scientific fields.
  4. Working knowledge of principles and practices of scientific research.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Highly organized and able to work with minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to work effectively in research organizations and establish and maintain professional relationships with coworkers.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Basic knowledge in materials sciences.
  2. Experience in performing material synthesis and laboratory work.
