HNEI took part in the 2025 Onizuka Day of Exploration, an annual STEM event honoring astronaut Ellison Onizuka’s legacy on Saturday, April 5 on the University of Hawai‘i’s West Oahu campus. The event welcomed students from elementary, middle, and high schools, along with their families and educators, for a day of hands-on science and discovery.
At the HNEI STEM booth, HNEI Assistant Researcher Saeed Sepasi and HNEI Graduate Assistant Spencer Kerkau, both apart of HNEI’s GridSTART group hosted interactive exhibits focused on renewable energy and electric grid operations. Their hands-on activities introduced students of all ages to the concepts of power generation, grid integration, and energy efficiency—offering a fun and engaging way to explore how renewable resources power our future.
