Edward Bruffey III

Fuel Cell Systems Laboratory Test Engineer
Fuel Cell Testing

Edward Bruffey III graduated from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa with a B.Sc. in Chemistry and served as an undergraduate research assistant (2018-2021) in Dr. Godwin Severa’s lab at the Hawai‘i Natural Energy Institute developing advanced materials for acidic gas capture. He continued his academic journey in the Severa lab at HNEI as a graduate research assistant (2021-2023) and earned a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. During this time he created a synthesis method for nano-sheet magnesium diboride materials for hydrogen adsorption, also, he designed and fabricated a lab-scale forward osmosis system with a focus on desalination. Edward joined HNEI in 2024 as a fuel cell test engineer and is currently working to develop high temperature fuel cells for the next generation of electrochemical power systems.
